White wheat saw a defensive basis against gains in Chicago, but did nudge above the $6 level, and hard red winter also saw basis slip a dime lower. White wheat demand at the export level is showing price competitiveness, as the pace of sales continues to be relatively strong. Weekly Sales...USDA reported the best level of export demand in over a month for U.S. wheat, coming mostly on the shoulders of white wheat sales. Overall export sales came in at 16.8 million bushels, the best number in over a month, putting commitments at 667 million bushels which is setting 10% above a year ago but 2% behind the five-year average pace. Soft white wheat secured 7 million bushels in new business and with 183 million in the books, sets 48% ahead of a year ago and 22% above average. Hard red winter garnered 3.6 million bushels, putting sales at 156 million which is 47% on top of a year ago but 27% below average. Hard red spring booked 3.5 million bushels to put commitments at 217 million, which stands 9% ahead of a year ago and 8% above average. Topping the list of white wheat buyers was South Korea, Vietnam and The Philippines. - Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2025 DTN/Telvent. All Rights Reserved.
