DTN Closing Livestock Comment 12/04 16:04 Cattle Futures Shift Lower in Early Week Trade Follow-through pressure developed in most cattle futures trade at closing bell Monday, although prices shifted higher and lower through the trading session due to overall lack of longer-term direction. The sharp losses seen last week continue to weaken the overall tone of the market, leaving prices vulnerable to additional losses. By Rick Kment DTN Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS Cash cattle markets are quiet with bids and asking prices undeveloped through the afternoon. Showlists are larger with most areas posting increased cattle available to packers. This is not expected to spark active trade through the next couple of days with most trade likely to be pushed off to the last half of the week. According to the closing report, the national hog base is unchanged compared with the Prior Day settlement ($54.00-$60.50) weighted average $59.27. The corn futures moved lower in light activity. December futures were 5 1/4 cents lower Monday. The Dow Jones Index is 58 points higher with the Nasdaq down 72 points.
