Basis performance continues to show ordinary protein white wheat remaining defensive against strength in Chicago, with basis on hard red winters and springs holding firm. Large portions of the Pacific Northwest are seeing welcomed rain showers this week, with forecasts for precipitation holding into the weekend. Weekly Sales...USDA confirmed an improved week of demand, coming in at the best levels since late July with over 20 mb put on the books. Current year demand now stands at 468 mb and 16% behind a year ago. South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand were top buyers for the week, accounting for nearly half the total. Sales by class showed hard red spring was the top seller at 6.6 mb, followed by hard red winter with 6.4 mb, and white wheat with 6.2 mb. Sales to unknown accounted for nearly half that total, and year-to-date soft white sales stand just 3% behind a year ago at 86 mb. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2015 DTN/Telvent.
