DTN Early Word Grains 08/31 05:55 Grains Start the Week Lower Again December corn was fractionally lower, November soybeans were 8 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was fractionally lower, November soybeans were 8 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Grains were mostly lower early Monday with soybeans posting the sharpest sell-off of 8 cents. Corn was trying to hold near unchanged while wheat contracts were 2 cents lower. Outside commodities were also lower, with crude oil down $1.00 and gold off $2.00. It's interesting to note that the U.S. dollar index was lower overnight, though selling interest was limited and not enough to provide support to commodities in general. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 11.76 points lower Friday at 16,643.01. DJIA futures were 160 points lower. Asian markets were mostly lower with the Nikkei down 245.84 points at 18,890.48 while China's Shanghai Composite was down 26.36 points. European markets were also mostly lower. The U.S. dollar index was 0.066 lower at 96.040. Crude oil was $0.91 lower at $44.31 while Brent crude was $1.29 lower at $48.76. December gold was $2.00 lower at $1,132.00. Soybeans at the Dalian Exchange were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher.
