DTN Retail Fertilizer Trends

OMAHA (DTN) -- Retail fertilizer prices dipped lower in the fourth week of May 2020, according to prices for eight major fertilizers tracked by DTN.

While no fertilizer has moved a significant amount, which DTN designates as 5% or more in either direction, a majority of fertilizers were lower for the first time in ten weeks.

Six fertilizers declined in price compared to last month with anhydrous declining $14/ton, or 3%, to $478/ton. DAP has an average price of $410/ton, down $3; potash $365/ton, down $5; urea $377/ton, down $9; UAN28 $236/ton, down $1; and UAN32 $279/ton, down less than a dollar.

The remaining two fertilizers had slightly higher prices compared to the prior month. MAP had an average price of $434/ton, up $1, and 10-34-0 was $468/ton, up less than $1.

On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was at $0.41/lb.N, anhydrous $0.29/lb.N, UAN28 $0.42/lb.N and UAN32 $0.44/lb.N.

Retail fertilizers are all lower in price from a year ago. Anhydrous is 19% lower, both DAP and MAP are 18% less expensive, UAN28 is 13% lower, urea is 12% less expensive, UAN32 is 11% lower, potash is 7% less expensive and 10-34-0 is 4% lower from last year at this time.

DTN collects roughly 1,700 retail fertilizer bids from 310 retailer locations weekly. Not all fertilizer prices change each week. Prices are subject to change at any time.
